Asheville Fall 2012

Plan was to fish wild Smokey Mountain streams then hit a UT Football Game.
The Game ended up a 7:30 kickoff, so we just fished instead.
A lot of rain the week before had the water slightly high but still crystal clear.
Arrived Thursday in time to eat and relax.
Friday we headed up the Blue Ridge to fish the South Toe.
Great stretch of between the parkway MP 472 and the Black Mountain campground.
Saturday we headed through the Great Smokey Mountain park on rt 441.
Stop at the SMokey visitor center and ask for a park fishing map.
Attached is the basic park map.

The upper Oconaluftee in NC looked great but we didn't hit it.
In TN the very upper West Prong of the Little Pigeon had a few spots and we fished a parking lot at Sugarland.  Definately a spot to go back to.
We spent some time on the Little River along Little River Rd with not much success.  A later visit to Little River Outfitters advised staying upstream.
Found a nice Smokey website for future use:

We then hit the East Prong of the Little river at Elkmont.  At Elkmont campground, you can park and there is a 4 mile long trail along the stream.  Walking in we crossed paths with a few anglers raving about their success.  We hike about a mile in during the late afternoon.  No luck but beautiful water.  Next year - hike 4 miles in and fish our way out.
